On a private lake in Westlake Village, Michael Jackson, not yet 19, was relaxed, smiling and polite as he and his brothers chatted on the dock and tooled around on an electric boat during a daylong photo shoot.
Having just left Motown and begun a new relationship with Epic Records, the Jackson 5 music group was preparing for the release of its first album on Epic, titled “Destiny.”
“They were very excited about a new level of their career, new opportunities,” photographer Gregg Cobarr recalls of the Jackson brothers — and little sister Janet, making her public debut at the shoot — on that warm summer day in 1978.
Hired by Epic for the promotional shoot, Cobarr had done countless others like it for music industry clients including Columbia, Epic and Capitol Records, RCA, Curb and Warner Bros. — yet, 31 years later, Cobarr still can recall details about the day, and about the very special young man he encountered in Michael Jackson.
“He had such a kind, sensitive, fun and charismatic nature,” Cobarr said. “It made a lasting impression.”
A few of the photos from that day were used in promotional materials, but the vast majority never saw the light of day — until now.
Teaming with Camarillo-based Fine Art Management Corp., Cobarr, who now lives near San Luis Obispo, has chosen to make a number of rare photos from that shoot available for online viewing and purchase.
In addition, Cobarr has an exhibit of the photos up at the David W. Streets Beverly Hills gallery. Up since July 8, the solo exhibit will remain open through mid-August in the Contem-porary Art & Photography wing of the gallery at 9411 S. Santa Monica Blvd.
Online, prints start at $25; limited-edition exhibit posters signed by the photographer also are available through Fine Art Management.
The photos “pretty much have not been released for the public to see,” Cobarr said in an interview Wednesday. “They’ve certainly never been available for people to buy.”
To those who question his motives, Cobarr responds: “I think people would think, ‘Oh look, they’re opportunists,’ but it’s not that at all. I want people to see the real Michael. They don’t know this Michael existed. They only relate to contemporary images.
“The way the media got hold of him and twisted so many things about him ” Cobarr said, “I wanted to let people see what I saw just this nice, gentle soul.”

Fine Art Management Corp. Publishes Unreleased Photos Of Michael Jackson Taken During a 1978 Photo Shoot In Westlake Village, Calif.

Camarillo, CA – July 7, 2009—With the recent passing of Michael Jackson, Fine Art Management Corporation, along with noted Celebrity Photographer Gregg Cobarr, are set to release rare photographs of Michael Jackson with sister Janet and brothers– Jackie, Marlon, Tito and Randy– taken during a two-day photo shoot in August 1978 in Westlake Village and Los Angeles, Calif. These photos will be available to the public for the first time through http://www.FineArtManagementNews.com.

Gregg Cobarr joined forces with Ira Shore, Owner and CEO of Fine Art Management Corporation in Camarillo, Calif. to distribute these photos to the public. Cobarr selected FAMC to distribute his prized photographs to the public because of FAMC’s reputation and previous high-profile projects with The Muhammad Ali Center, Disney Fine Art, among others.

“I decided to release the photos to the public for the first time now because I wanted people to see the ‘real’ Michael as I knew him from the photo sessions,” said Cobarr.  “He had such a kind, sensitive, fun and charismatic nature. The public has never seen most of these photos and they have never, ever been offered for sale to the public.”

The photographs were taken prior to the release of The Jackson’s first album “Destiny” with their new record label, Epic Records to be used for the albums advertising and publicity.

Gregg Cobarr has twenty-five years of professional photography experience with such music industry clients as Columbia and Epic Records, MCA, RCA, Capitol and Warner Brothers. In the TV and movie industry, he has done work for 20th Century Fox and Columbia Pictures. He holds a Bachelors Degree from Brooks Institute of Photography and a Master of Fine Arts Degree from California Institute of the Arts.

Gregg’s work has been published both nationally and internationally in addition to numerous awards for his photography and was recently featured on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Artist Biography:

Allison Lefcort has painted since early childhood. The Greenwich Village Art Gallery in New York City first represented her professionally when she was seventeen. At twenty-six, she is becoming widely collected and recognized for her own style of portrait painting.

Allison has shown her work in fine galleries around the country, in places as diverse as SOHO, Maui, Kennebunkport, and Key West. Her portraits have hung side by side with such esteemed artist as Peter Max and Romero Britto. Her paintings have been purchased and shipped around the world to places like Monte Carlo, Singapore, Germany, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Bangkok, Luxembourg, Jerusalem, Paris and London.

Allison was invited to paint a portrait of the First Lady of the United States, Hillary Rodham Clinton. Allison had the privilege of presenting this portrait to the First Lady, and it was then shipped to her at the White House.

She was also invited to paint portraits of Their Royal Highness, the now late King Hussein of Jordan and Queen Noor. That same portrait of the late King Hussein was featured in an interview with Queen Noor conducted by Katie Couric on the Today show! Queen Noor mentioned to Katie that it was her favorite portrait of her late husband.

Artist Biography:

It was not until high school, after walking away from a life of graffiti in the streets, that the performance artist, David Garibaldi, turned his hip-hop influences in a more positive direction. Now, only a few short years later, his message of “Living one’s life as a platform,” has touched the hearts and minds of the hundreds of thousands of people he has performed in front of. His show energetically mixes a six foot canvas, performance art and motivational speaker with a little rock star thrown in for good measure.

From a Snoop Dogg concert to opening for the Blue Man Group, Garibaldi offers something special in his live performance “Rhythm & Hue,” something that anyone from any walk of life can relate to and enjoy. Most recently, he painted a portrait of Carlos Santana during the half time show of a Golden State Warriors basketball game. To everyone’s surprise, Santana came out and signed the work once Garibaldi had finished.

David Garibaldi’s Disney Fine Art program is a fusion of the “Rhythm and Hue” performance art and his more controlled, studio work. The result is a strongly stylized character with the exciting spontaneity of his live, performance pieces. With Garibaldi’s ability to make even the most classic figures seem somehow entirely new and fresh, his works are able to have one leg in classic iconography, while the other is clearly stretched far into the exciting world of modern art.
